Introducing 3XL Containers: 8 GB of RAM for Your Applications

Over the years, we've watched the workloads running on Scalingo grow. Applications are getting larger, handling more data, running more background jobs, and simply demanding more resources than they used to.

As a result, more and more users have been reaching the limits of our largest standard container.

That’s why we’re expanding our container lineup with 3XL: 8 GB of RAM and high CPU priority.

Who are they for?

Our 3XL containers are designed for applications where memory is the limiting factor. Typical use cases include:

• Large monolithic applications that have outgrown 2XL containers

• Self-hosted data and automation platforms such as n8n, Airflow, or Metabase that process large datasets, orchestrate workflows, or power analytics workloads

• Data-intensive applications processing large datasets or memory-heavy background jobs

• Mature production applications migrating from platforms like Heroku, where larger runtime sizes have long been available

Not sure whether you need a larger container? Check your application's memory metrics over time, especially during peak traffic, background jobs, and scheduled tasks. If memory usage regularly approaches the limit of your current container, it's probably time to move to 3XL.

Upgrading is easy

Upgrading to 3XL only takes a few clicks:

• Click on the application you want to scale up

• Click on the Resources tab

• Locate the Containers block

• Next to the process type you want to scale up, locate the Size
  dropdown

• From the dropdown, select our 3XL container

• Click the Scale button on the right side

• Your application will be safely upgraded to 3XL without any downtime
